چکیده
This fact sheet has been developed to support the implementation of the Natural Resources Conservation Service Feed Management 592 Practice Standard. The Feed Management 592 Practice Standard was adopted by NRCS in 2003 as another tool to assist with addressing resource concerns on livestock and poultry operations. Feed management can assist with reducing the import of nutrients to the farm and reduce the excretion of nutrients in manure. Feed Management

Prospective Effects of Regrouping, Number of Animals in Each Group and Concentrate Specificity on Profitability of Lactating Dairy Cows
Profitability of different grouping criteria was simulated in a dairy farm with 153 lactating cows that were divided into three groups of high (79), medium (40) and low (34) cows based on the milk records. Animals were reassigned to the new groups based on the following criteria using a decision support tool and the same three groups scenario: fat corrected milk 4%, days in milk (DIM), dairy me...
متن کاملDietary grouping strategies to improve profitability on dairy farms
Grouping cows is a common practice farmers use to manage their herd more efficiently. Farmers use this strategy to separate far-off, close-up, sick, fresh, and pregnant cows. Grouping addresses cows’ specific needs. However, grouping lactating cows for nutritional purposes and providing groups with more precise diets has not been adopted as widely as it could be, despite the fact that many stud...

متن کاملAre There Financial Advantages of Grouping and Feeding Dairy Cows by Nutritional Need?
Nutritional grouping is a herd management strategy that provides different diets to different groups of lactating cows to better fulfill their nutrient requirements. Hence, it can be beneficial by saving feed costs, improving productivity, improving herd health, and decreasing nutrient emissions to the environment (Cabrera and Kalantari, 2016). Total mixed rations have become an industry standa...
متن کاملEffect of Animal Grouping on Feeding Behavior and Intake of Dairy Cattle
Although data are scarce, it is clear that grouping strategy can have a significant impact on the feeding behavior and feed intake of dairy cattle. Feed intake is controlled by ruminoreticular fill and physiological mechanisms, but grouping is a component of the cow’s feeding environment that can modulate intake as a result of its impact on cow comfort, competition for feed and other resources,...
متن کاملDecision Making for Animal Health and Welfare: Integrating Risk-Benefit Analysis with Prospect Theory
This study integrated risk-benefit analysis with prospect theory with the overall objective of identifying the type of management behavior represented by farmers' choices of mastitis control options (MCOs). Two exploratory factor analyses, based on 163 and 175 Swedish farmers, respectively, highlighted attitudes to MCOs related to: (1) grouping cows and applying milking order to prevent spread ...
